CINA - CONTEMPORARY REVIVAL. This year the "Milan-World" exposition - which connects the City with the foremost extra-European cultures through the doors of Palazzo Reale - will give the public an opportunity to experience the "Contemporary Revival of China". The collection covers the last fifteen years of work by influential Chinese artists, and focuses on the art movements that made China a leading cradle for contemporary art. China's economic, technological and political influence is increasing on a global scale. The Palazzo Reale expo unveils dynamics hardly ever publicised in Western Countries: those of Chinese creativity. Milan, capital of innovation, once more demonstrates its ability to capture the essence of creativity from around the globe.
China reveals itself to visitors as a first-class contemporary art environment that encompasses figurative and sculptural art, as well as literature and film. Milan and China already share a common path, thanks to many cultural, innovation and research projects. It's a road paved with friendship, collaboration, and the will to exchange both knowledge and experience.
The expo, another milestone on this path, unveils the most significant expressions of contemporary Chinese art. The forerunners are Zhang Xiaogang, Yue Minjun, Liu Ye and Zeng Fanzhi; the first prominent figures to gain global acclaim, whose work majorly contributed to raise awareness of contemporary Chinese art.
The collection includes examples from one of the most cherished art movements worldwide: the “Cartoon Generation”. Works by Chen Ke, Han Yajuan, Wang Qian, whose fable-like transfiguration of the world reveals extremely profound insights.
Chinese art and culture are characterized by a wish to "defy" the figurative parameters of both the Western world and China.
A few contemporary artists - Feng Zhenjie, Shi Xinning, Zhou Tiehai, Wang Qingsong - reinterpret Western art through their own culture, while others like - Huang Yan, Liu Zheng, Gao Yu - reiterate and reinforce the extremely strong ties to traditional art instead.
A characteristic peculiar to Chinese poetry is the effort to trascend its natural boundaries; "Poetry Research" by Shi Jinsong is a perfect example, where technology and nature blend to "form" a complex philosophical system.
The exposition showcases a wide range of art and materials, from traditional paintings, sculptures, video art, to environmental artwork.
The dialogue between the highly innovative artworks and the historical spaces of Palazzo Reale fully engage the visitors' intellect and emotions.
This is truly a unique event on a European scale. It's a collection that tells the story of a far-away culture with ancient ties to the Western World, a civilization that continues to influence our sense of aesthetics to this day. Milan invites you to discover China through its Art and gain a new perspective on a far away Country that is increasingly close to us.
