ABOUT  THE PERFORMANCE
Unanimously considered to be an authority on the Italian repertoire, Nello Santi is closely linked to Nabucco, of which he is one of the most accredited interpreters. The revival of the staging by Daniele Abbado sees the role of Abigaille played by Anna Pirozzi, in her second Verdi title at La Scala after I due Foscari, and by Martina Serafin, while the leading role is once again played by Leo Nucci. Stefano La Colla returns as Ismaele, after appearing as Calaf in the Turandot that opened the six-month Expo season, conducted by Riccardo Chailly; and Mikhail Petrenko, one of the most interesting bass voices of recent years, makes his La Scala debut in the role of Zaccaria.

Teatro alla Scala Chorus and Orchestra
New Teatro alla Scala Production
Running Time: 2 hours 40 minutes intermission included
FIRST AND SECOND ACT: 85 minutes / Intermission: 30 minutes / THIRD ACT: 45 minutes

ABOUT  THE PERFORMANCE
A founding text of German operatic Romanticism and an absolute masterpiece of musical theatre, Der Freischütz by Carl Maria von Weber has not been performed at La Scala since 1998, when it was conducted by Donald Runnicles, but it is worthwhile remembering above all the 1955 edition with Carlo Maria Giulini on the podium. Today, Weber’s sinister fairy tale plot is unravelled by Myung-Whun Chung, who was Giulini’s most illustrious pupil, together with a first-rate cast that includes Julia Kleiter as Agathe and Günther Groissböck playing the demonic role of Kaspar, while Micheal König offers his Heldentenor to the character of Max. The new production is by Matthias Hartmann, who previously directed the Burgtheater in Vienna and is active as an opera director in Vienna, Zurich and Paris.

ABOUT  THE PERFORMANCE
To conclude the season, La Scala presents Ti vedo, ti sento, mi perdo, commissioned from Salvatore Sciarrino together with the Staatsoper Unter der Linden of Berlin. Sciarrino, one of the most appreciated contemporary composers and one of the most performed worldwide, has an overriding passion for Italian music from 1500 to 1600. While Carlo Gesualdo was among the sources of inspiration for the highly successful Luci mie traditrici (1998), the focal point of the new opera is the tragic life of Alessandro Stradella (1639 – 1682). Unlike his numerous predecessors, inspired above all by the fictional aspects of the figure of the composer (they include Flotow and Franck), Sciarrino chooses not to bring him on stage and to evoke him solely through the music. The staging is entrusted to Jürgen Flimm and Gudrun Hartmann, who have long-standing artistic and personal relations with Sciarrino, and the baton will be wielded by the young Maxime Pascal, winner of the Nestlé award and conductor of the Orchestra Le Balcon in Paris, dedicated to the music of today. After the success of CO2 by Giorgio Battistelli, La Scala resumes its custom of proposing a contemporary title every year, preferably as a world premiere.
