NOTES ON THE PERFORMANCES
Intelligent and spectacular, the show by Robert Carsen that opened the 2011/2012 Season with mirrors and curtains, illusions and delusions, returns to the stage marking Paavo Järvi’s first time at La Scala. The Estonian Maestro, Music Director of the Orchestre de Paris, is a distinguished interpreter of Mozart, as he has demonstrated in several concerts leading the Wiener Philharmoniker. The libertine at twilight, caught in the moment when his ability to seduce seems to be running out, is played by a charismatic Thomas Hampson in a cast that includes the young Hanna-Elisabeth Müller as Donna Anna, Bernard Richter as Don Ottavio and Luca Pisaroni as Leporello.

NOTES ON THE PERFORMANCES
Also continuing this season, for nine performances between May and June, is the project of ballets set to chamber music. From Cello Suites to Il giardino degli amanti, it examined a combination of great allure in the exaltation of the details, the timbres and the voices of every instrument, and the bodies of the dancers responding to the musical stimuli. An authentic creative development for the musicians and dancers of La Scala, a stimulus for choreographers and a real opportunity to exalt scores which, like small but precious jewels, open up to a broad and multi-faceted audience and visualise themselves on stage amplifying atmospheres and suggestions. For a new production and a world premiere, Mauro Bigonzetti returns to his great love for early and Baroque music, starting from Händel’s Suites, with a breath that is expanded through other chamber compositions. A breath that will be forged on the dancers of La Scala and on our étoiles Roberto Bolle and Svetlana Zakharova, for whom Mauro Bigonzetti will create for the first time, complying, also chromatically, with the timbres and colours of the two different musical situations, with a common denominator: the draw of the theatre, of the imagination and the fantasy of the Baroque world evoked by the notes of Händel.

NOTES ON THE PERFORMANCES
Since its first performance in 1963, Franco Zeffirelli’s La bohème has enchanted generations of spectators and involved a by-now endless list of eminent interpreters. The June and July 2017 performances will be a La Scala debut for Sonya Yoncheva, who since her triumph in the Metropolitan in 2014, also in the role of Mimì, has conquered the stages of the greatest theatres in the world. Alongside Sonya, alternating in the role with Ailyn Pérez who received ovations in the revival in 2015, is a cast consisting of the finest voices Italy has to offer: Fabio Sartori, Simone Piazzola, Mattia Olivieri and Carlo Colombara. On the podium will be Evelino Pidò, a conductor who comes from the orchestra of La Scala whose brilliant international career has seen him regularly conducting new productions in London, Vienna and New York.

NOTES ON THE PERFORMANCE
The unforgettable game of silhouettes with which Giorgio Streheler interpreted the charm of Mozart’s Singspiel was conceived for the Salzburg Festival, where it was staged in 1965 under the baton of Zubin Mehta, and then regularly revived at La Scala from 1972 onwards. At twenty years since the death of the great director, who from 1951 staged some by-now legendary operas at La Scala, such as Macbeth, Simon Boccanegra, Falstaff, Le nozze di Figaro, and Don Giovanni, to name but a few, Teatro alla Scala is proposing anew this celebrated staging and calling to the podium the man who conducted it the first time. The dizzying role of Konstanze is sung by Lenneke Ruiten, much applauded in Lucio Silla in 2015, with the emerging Mozart tenor Mauro Peter in the role of Belmonte.

NOTES ON THE PERFORMANCE
In June and July, La Scala will be a land of elves, fairies, butterflies, skirmishes and spells, losses and reconciliations: Titania and Oberon, the lovers, Puck, Bottom… the magic of a fairy tale night straight from the mind of Shakespeare and the geometric perfection of George Balanchine’s style. His A Midsummer Night’s Dream and the Scala Ballet Company share an unbreakable international destiny: with this ballet, created in New York in 1962, the company really did tour the world, and thanks to the interpretation and La Scala’s staging in 2003 with scenery and costumes by Luisa Spinatelli,  Balanchine's "Dream" is back, more splendid than ever: it is not a restoration - this has been said - rather, it is almost a renaissance. Today, having made its first appearance thanks to the Scala Ballet Company in Mexico, Brazil, China, Germany, Turkey, Cyprus, Greece, Russia and Denmark, finally returns to La Scala with Mendelssohn’s music conducted by David Coleman.

Reversible is an explosive show, acclaimed in the most important theatres worldwide. Anchored in the deep roots of flamenco and accompanied by a parterre of exceptional musicians and dancers, Liñán guides us on an emotional journey through primordial memories and infantile games which lead the performer to rediscover their first impulses, a visit to the centre of themselves, where the essence of existence lies. Manuel Liñán, enfant prodige of flamenco, is one of the most successful artists on the international scene. He passes from solo roles ot collaborations with emerging artists, and in 2008 he made his debut as director, choreographer and performer, receiving an Award as a Revelation. He is sought by important companies for his talent as a choreographer, including the Ballet Nacional de España, for which he choreographed a number of pieces in recent productions.

La espina que quiso...

Piccolo Teatro Strehler

With the show La espina que quiso ser flor o la flor che quiso ser bailaora, Olga Pericet finds a way to show her deepest-rooted inner self. A personal journey in which the strength of her dance pulls us into the most hidden corners of the soul. A gallery of dramatic games in which the woman is always strong and determined in a mix of sculptural images and transformations.

More than ever, with the show La espina que quiso ser flor o la flor che quiso ser bailaora, Olga Pericet finds a way to show her deepest-rooted inner self. A personal journey in which the strength of her dance pulls us into the most hidden corners of the soul, among scars filled with kisses and memories. Olga Pericet’s flamenco pulses between opposites, its obscurity relaxes, its beauty is disturbing. Feminine and masculine blend together and consume each other. A gallery of dramatic games in which the woman is always strong and determined in a mix of sculptural images and transformations, with shifts between the beautiful and the ugly, between joy and bitterness, solitude and lasciviousness, youth and decrepitude. The music is a splendid frame for the pure creativity of song, rhythm and flamenco styles.
