SMEG FABULOUS 28
Themodernchic. A work of design to be displayed in a home. SMEG FAB28: the refrigerator that shatters the last taboo of the ‘grisaille look syndrome’ in the kitchen
DESIGN MATTERS, thought so Steve Jobs - co-founder of Apple Computer and Pixar Animation Studio – when in 1977 introduced on the market the very coloured and rounded IMac Bondi Bue, blue like the of water on the sands of Bondi Beach, in Sidney. It was an instant success for this “all curves”. The success of a reinvented product, which combines all in one imagination, aesthetics and technology: a new mood.
DESIGN MATTERS, must have been on the minds of the designers who cooperated with the Guastalla brand when they conceived the collections of refrigerators Smeg Fab28. They hit the target. The result is a technologically advanced and original product which embodies harmony of form and function: a new mood. Fab 28 is not simply a home appliance, but a work of design: an excellent expression of the made in Italy to be put on display in one of the most lived-in space in the house. "Luxury – said Chanelis a need which starts where the need ends.Smeg Fab 28 is exactly that.
The Smeg FAB28, nicknamed ‘Bombino’, exactly for its featured reference to the form of the ‘50s, is offered in various variances of colours. After the sensation stirring initial pastel series, the range of colours has progressively been enriched of brighter tonalities –red, black, green, lime green and orange- and the Smeg frigo has become a true ‘status symbol’, which reflects the personality of the individual choosing it; Smeg FAB28 has shattered the last taboo of the ‘grisaille look syndrome’ in the kitchen .
Recently it has been reinterpreted through original aesthetic offers, like the Tricolore version with the Italian flag, the Union Jack with the British flag, the Color Stripes with thousands of coloured stripes inspired to the Swinging London by Paul Smith, and the Yellow, the latest born of the series in the Smeg house and, last by not least, the FAB28MCS – MINI Cooper S, limited edition model, born from the partnership between the Italian appliances manufacturer and the famous British automobile manufacturer.
The result of this collaboration, which has joined the two brands distinguished by the same passion for design, innovation and personalisation, is an exclusive, gritty and brilliant refrigerator produced only in 250 numbered copies, bearing on its aesthetic the distinguishing features which have made the MINI a cult vehicle all over the world.
The Smeg refrigerator is entirely coloured in Laser Blue – the launching colour of the new MINI Cooper S – and offers on its door two white side bands (bonnet stripes), the same that in 1964 were present on the Mini which won the Montecarlo Rally and which have always stood for the MINI’s own sportiness and personalization. Thus both automobile and refrigerator draw from the same historical period: elegant and refined they reinterpret in a modern look a glorious past with rounded lines intrinsic to the ‘50s and ‘60s.
The FAB28MCS – MINI Cooper S model bears other unmistakable details of their style. The MINI logo, positioned at the centre of the refrigerator, is associated to the Smeg logo, and its handle is the same that stands-out on the door of the new automobile. To facilitate its hold, a recess has been carved behind the handle exactly like the one of the MINI: an attention to details that speaks of Smeg.
