Zaha Hadid + Patricia Urquiola + Antonio Citterio + Naoto Fukasawa + Studio Kairos=GOOD NEWS 2007
GOOD NEWS is the theme that welcomes visitors to the B&B Italia Store - 14, via Durini - from 18th to 23rd April. B&B Italia is looking to the future with optimism and confidence, and with the important results it has achieved in a busy year of intense research and experimentation. In the beginning there was Fat-Fat a multifunctional element that doubled as a table/container, from which first the Fat-Fat coffee tables and then the Fat-Fat bed developed. Now these same round, soft and sinuous shapes are repeated in a seating system which includes different typologies: from the linear sofa to the terminal elements, from the armchair with back in two heights, to the chaise longue and to the new ottomans. “A welcoming, protective island. Pleasant to the touch, solid reassuring, without sharp edges, sensual” is how Patricia Urquiola describes her work, aimed at identifying new perceptions of domestic objects in a language which is intentionally “in contrast with the orthagonal nature of work and the urban network”. A continuous form which combines aesthetics and ergonomic features. Moon System expresses the happy meeting of attitude and experimentation typical of B&B Italia and Zaha Hadid, world famous architect, whose work has been exploring the complexity of curved geometry for several years. The concept of seating, in its most traditional sense, is radically undermined by the creation of an angular, highly dynamic form: a single shape which contains the back, the seating, and the armrests as if “sculpted” from a single block. Metallic as if it had just arrived from outer space, Moon System is best placed at the centre of a room from where its fluid, expressive curves can be admired from new viewpoints. The system is complete with footrest, whose shape perfectly integrates with the form of the sofa. The concept of modular sofa, developed into several typologies, is newly rendered with Luis, design Antonio Citterio, a solution that skillfully combines comfort and elegance. Well-balanced masses, moderate proportions and an extremely soft look accompany a wide range of composition options that can easily fit spaces of quite different sizes. Two are the seat depths (cm 62 and cm 78), three the widths (cm 62,78.94), and two the height variants for backrests and armrests. The system consist of sixty modular elements, linear, corner and peninsula sofas. From the aesthetic point of view, Luis is marked by a structure based on the floor and particularly large cushions, whose softness spread also over backrest and armrests. Innovation and simplicity, technology and harmony are the inspiration behind PIER, design by Studio Kairos, aimed at finding new storage different from the proposal available on the market. The system starts from the movable partitions which can close off both niches and walk-in-closet, becoming a traditional wardrobe. There are four opening systems: flush sliding doors, sliding doors, hinged and hinged-sliding, which can be applied to the different models, from the storage unit closed on four sides, to the area which requires made-to-measure solutions. An essential look and base and headboard in a drastically reduced size are the distinguishing features of SIENA, a project by Naoto Kukasawa, which conveys a great sense of lightness, thanks to the base projecting from the whole perimeter of the bed. the top of the back panel inserted into the base features a short turned-up section where you can rest your arm comfortably when you are seated. Two tubular metal supports hold up the frame; a version is available with casters at the rear that make it easy to move. The base frame contains a metal mesh with pre-curved beech wood slats.
